I paid additional $200 (Mexican) and update a room. It was a wonderful room with a view to a lagune. Absolute wonderful. We got up early due to jet leg and from a balcony obtained 180 degree view to free space, boats going to fishing and with birds singing at the background. Bed is comfortable,. Bathroom is OK. Good place for one night flamingo tour.

Casa Ka'an Rio in Rio Lagartos offers a clean and tidy room that provides everything needed for a quiet and comfortable night stay. The room meets typical Mexican standards, equipped with both air conditioning and a fan. It’s an ideal place to rest after exploring the area, particularly after the highly recommended boat tour of the lagoon, which is a highlight of any visit to Rio Lagartos. The host was quite friendly, contributing to the welcoming atmosphere of the hotel. Additionally, there is a pool available on the premises. While we didn’t have the chance to try it, it looks like it would be perfect for a refreshing dip after a day spent in the scorching hot weather. Overall, our stay met all basic expectations and was quite satisfactory.
Hotel Mercy Inn’s is located 100 metres from Río Lagartos River and 200 metres from the local market. It features a terrace, free Wi-Fi, free coffee service and a shared kitchen.

Great location, friendly staff, they offer great tours. The breakfast was good, but would benefit fresh juices instead of juice boxes.

We loved our stay here! The space and apartment were really modern, clean and well equipped. I loved that you could see the water from the room too, plus the hammock was lovely to relax on. It was the perfect place to relax. The hosts were really helpful and booked us a tour out to see the flamingos. He was excellent and both the accomodation and the trip made Rio Lagartos a standout stop on our Mexico trip.

Rio Lagartos is a fishing village that is refreshingly immune to tourism except for nature tours. The location was excellent. Both Victor and Ariel were wonderful taking us on boat rides and nature watching tours. Ariel's English was pretty good and he was always available to help. I really enjoyed being with him. It's really close to the restaurants and the one next door has a fabulous sunset views. I enjoyed just sitting down by the dock and watching the water. The deck has nice chairs for reading.

Right up in the middle of nowhere! Beautiful little waterfront town. Access to flamingos, fresh seafood and a very chill vibe. Bring cash, dress down, relax. Do not expect too much from this place or the people, but do expect to be wow-ed by the scenario on the water and the public beach areas, access to the freshest food and the friendliest smiles. 2-3 nights is plenty in this location.

Nice village, but when we entered the village by car on our way to the hotel we were chased by someone on a scooter trying to sell us a boat tour, which we felt was very inappropriate and unsettling. We booked a tour next to our hotel at Rio Lagartos Adventures because they treat the evironment and the animals they encounter during their tours with respect (no directly disturbing or feeding the animals). Beautiful sunsets, highly recommended visit.

We did not travel round town as we visited purely to to the river boat trip. We booked a last minute night tour. I must admit that we were extremely lucky that our guide caught a relatively medium sized crocodile (he himself was was surprised at the size when he grabbed it as he thought it was much smaller). The kids loved it and we had a great time, however I must say that we were EXTREMELY lucky to see one at night let alone catch it and bring it onboard. The guide also had lost hope in seeing our catching one. So if you intend to do this tour ask and ask again what the chances are, the tour operators never give any guarantees but 70% chance vs 10% makes a big difference. We had about 10% though they only told us this once we were off!!
We also booked day river trip which left at 7am this was also great fun and we same plenty of birds including flamingos though at a distance. I highly recommend the tour and Rio lagartos is definitely worth the trip.
We ate at La Majoritta restaurant. The food was exceptional and real good value for money. Be aware that there are only 4 tables, but I don’t think Rio lagartos gets very busy.
We also went up to The colorades, though I have mixed feelings about the place. Yes the lakes are pink. And they look pretty however to view them closely you need to pay 350mx /person to walk for 30min along man made salt lakes. In my opinion this extortion. We saw them from outside. From Rio lagartos this is a 30min drive.

We came with rented car to Rio Lagartos just for 1 night and it was too short. Next time we will spend in this small village at least 2 or 3 nights. Of course, there isn't too much what to do after the sunset, but during the day nature is really amazing.

The city itself is not very beautiful and there is no much to do in it, but you just need to rent a boat in the port to have a great day and admire the animals in the wild.
We managed to see: crocodiles, flamingos, pelicans, cranes, eagles, raccoons ...
I also recommend visiting Sendero Petén Mac !

There is an important bioreserve for flamingoes and hundreds of other birds as well as raccoons and crocodiles. We had an excellent tour guide. The tourist industry is developing there and we enjoyed meals out and coffee at nearby restaurants.
We had a great two night stay at Posada Mercy. It really exceeded our expectation. We like everything about this hotel. We had a triple room with a balcony with a view of the pier. Room is bigger than I expected and it is very clean. Breakfast is delicious. The boat tour organized by the hotel was super fun. You can also handwash your clothes and hang them to dry on the clothelines in the courtyard. Staff is very nice and accommodating. A great stop on our way to Chichen Itza and Merída. Highly recommend this place.
Nice little hotel right on the estuary. all rooms have a view. The food is very good in the restaurant and there is a generous cooked breakfast included. It was very chilly and windy when we were there so we couldn’t go out on the water, but there is a very nice man across the road who does tours. We spoke with him. The woman at the front desk can direct you. We went to Los Colorados with our car rather than go on water but didn’t really see pink salt area because it was too cloudy. This is a very cute town too

Super clean, super comfortable, spacious room with a view of the sea from a small deck. A wardrobe for storing clothes and luggage and a small table and chair. A/C worked really well. Some outdoor common spaces with tables and chairs. Breakfast was included and outstanding! All the staff were really nice. We arranged our tour of the mangroves through the hotel and it was a wonderful afternoon and good price- 400 pesos.
This hotel is located in Rio Lagartos, close to Las Coloradas. We spent the night after visiting Las Coloradas. The host doesn't speak English but she arranged for Flamingo tours for us which we declined. The rooms and washroom were excellent. There is a pool as well in the property. The room is spacious and well equipped with TV and an Air conditioner.
I booked a 2-night stay and then added 3 more nights. I'll just add to my previous review that Posada Merci had the most comfortable pillows of the 10 hotels and BnBs we stayed at during our Mexico vacation. Their excellent curtains meant we had the darkest room for our good sleeps there. Merci Posada Merci!
new Hotel great location nice pool, beautiful spot for sunsets. The staff was very helpful in giving us a room on the first floor. my wife is handicapped and the hotel does not have elevators. Our original room was on the 3rd door and would have been difficult. Very nice reception made the changes for us.
Small owner operated business. Very friendly, helpful people. Melani, the owner, is a Canadian expatriate with 25 years in Mexico. Nice room with the best bed I have slept on in Mexico. We had a room with a large bathtub. The food was great.
Well designed rooms overlooking the water and the malecon with small balconies. Staff very friendly and helpful, good ambience, delightful breakfast. Been to Rio Lagartos a couple of times and this is best place in town.
The hotel was gorgeous, located right on the waterfront with a gorgeous roof terrace to watch the sunset. The staff were super friendly and really helpful and we enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise boat trip during our stay.
I liked just about everything about my stay at the hotel. The fact that there's a large bird roost right behind the place with flamingos and other birds was amazing (we were here in January)!
Good location, good size room with balcony, nice garden and pool. The hotel has a number of wifi connections, so we managed (but slow). The room was cleaned every day.
very nice place to stay with beautiful view. we recommend to take a boat trip with the guide from the hotel, he knows everything about the reserve and animals.
